Why this exists

I got into precision instruments the way most obsessions start — with one interesting piece, then a question about it that didn't have a good answer anywhere online. This site is where I've been building the answers: patent research, maker histories, restoration notes, and the occasional dead end.

Most of what comes through my bench comes out of machine shop liquidations and industrial surplus around the Pacific Northwest — Interapid and long-reach test indicators especially, though the reference library reaches wider than that. Instruments get authenticated, serviced where needed, and bench-verified before anything is sold.

The research and the restoration are the actual project. The selling just keeps it going.
